My most recent event was a simple text message. The message was luckily to a person in an international association I belong to (HTCIA.org). It’s not a secret, I talk about the organization all the time, its significantly placed in my bio on LinkedIn. I don’t know if there is a tie to the membership or if it’s just a coincidence. It could also be someone else with the same name that was the data leak victim. But this person got an iPhone Message in his text messages signed with my name. Thankfully, they contacted me and asked about the message. I hadn’t sent the message.
Who knows where this would have gone, but unsolicited text messages are a common scam to ingratiate people into a conversation (usually moved onto WhatsApp of Telegram) eventually leading to a crypto investment scam.
Be aware of unsolicited text messages. Block them and don’t respond. Warn your friends and family. If you become a victim, call the police. They can’t assist you if they don’t know about the crime.
